Bowstring maintenance is an essential ritual that all archers should perform regularly. The maintenance of a rope is essential, as it allows your rope to maintain good accuracy and shooting performance. It also prevents accidents from occurring.
THE USE OF A STRING IN ARCHERY
The string is the essential element that ensures the proper functioning of your bow. With the help of a notch, the arrow is placed in it. It will be pulled and tensed to propel the arrow to the desired target.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO WAX A BOWSTRING?
We all know that it is the string that transmits the accumulation of energy in the limbs of the bow when the archer shoots. Therefore, it is one of the most fragile parts and requires maintenance. To keep your rope, you will have to wax it. To do this, the string is lubricated with a wax specially designed for bows. This wax will leave a light protective film on the rope. It helps to protect the rope from damage and injury. In addition, the rope should not be dry to the touch. It should always be a little sticky when disassembled.
It should be borne in mind that the risks of shooting with an impaired rope are very high. If it is not maintained, it can also fray and end up breaking.
WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO WAX A BOWSTRING?
To wax a bowstring, you will need :
The string of your bow.
A tube of wax. You can opt for synthetic waxes available in archery stores. As an alternative, natural beeswax (which you can get from a beekeeper) can also do.
WHAT ARE THE STEPS TO WAX A ROPE?
Waxing a rope only takes a few minutes. These are the steps to follow:
Step 1: Check the condition of the string
Before you start waxing the bowstring, it is important to check that the string is in good condition. The service cable must be intact and the rope must have a good twist. This is because when the wax is applied the rope hardens and it will be difficult to adjust the twist afterwards. Next, secure the bow with adhesive tape so that the string is well tensioned.
Step 2: Apply the wax
Next, take the wax and apply it on the entire length of the rope. Do not hesitate to rub it from top to bottom so that the entire rope is well waxed.
We advise you not to wax the serving thread, as it will become too slippery.
Step 3: Massage the wax
Next, rub the wax on the twine with your fingers so that it penetrates the fibers. This is because the cord is made up of several strands and the wax must be pressed around each strand to make it more effective. If you do it correctly, you will normally feel a warmth.
Step 4: Cleaning
After waxing, take the string and wrap it around the bowstring. Move it back and forth to spread and distribute the wax. This thread will also remove excess wax.
Finally, remove the remains of wax from the fingers before using the rope.
OUR TIPS FOR MAINTAINING A ROPE
We advise you to wax your rope from time to time so that you can pull effectively. It should be borne in mind that waxing considerably prolongs the life and strength of your rope.
If your rope is already in poor condition, instead of waxing it, it is better to replace it. This is necessary for safe practice and good performance.
